Why “Low and Slow” Matters More Than You’d Think

If you’ve ever started a supplement for your child and seen a reaction — a bit more unsettled, a tummy upset, a rough few days — your instinct was probably “that doesn’t agree with them, stop.” And sometimes that’s right. But often, it’s not the supplement that was the problem. It was the pace.

Many children, especially those with sensitive systems, do far better when something new is introduced gently — a small amount, building up slowly over days or weeks, rather than a full dose from day one. Go in too fast and the body can protest, even when the thing itself might have suited them at a gentler pace.

There’s a phrase we use a lot: start low, go slow. It’s not about being overly cautious — it’s about giving the body time to adjust, and giving you clear information. When you change one thing gently at a time, you can actually tell what’s helping and what isn’t, instead of everything blurring together.

So if something seemed not to “work,” it’s worth asking: was it given a fair, gentle chance? Sometimes the answer changes everything.

General information, not personalised advice — always check suitability for your individual child.
